The Rolls Royce was founded by partnership of Charles rolls and Henry royce in 1906. This company is developer of aeroplane  engine. 

Lets  talk from 1998 when there is big dispute between to big automobile groups . In 1998 Vickers owner of Rolls Royce decide to sell the complete Rolls royce. At this time BMW delivers the engine to Rolls royce, BMW contract to supply engine and component to rolls royce allowed BMW to cancel the contract with 12 month notice. 

Here is the actual story starts, When the Vickers sell the rolls royce the most likely buyers was BMW, because it also supply Engine and other component to rolls royce. But here is a twist The BMW group finally offer 340 million Euro to Vickers, but Entry of Volkswagen and offer 430 million Euro which is 70 million Euro more than the BMW offer, Volkswagen buys the Rolls Royce. 

But Rolls Royce holding PLC, maker of areoplane engine still have some essential trade marks including the rolls royce name and logo, if the automotive division was sold. Rolls-Royce plc chose to license the Rolls-Royce name and logo to BMW AG for £40 million, because Rolls-Royce plc had recently had joint business ventures with BMW.

The Vickers Plc sold :- vehicle designs, nameplates, administrative headquarters, production facilities, Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grille shape trademarks to Volkswagen AG

BMW offend with this decision, that did't get Rolls Royce. Now BMW send 12 month notice and cancel the contract which is clearly written in contract, that BMW can cancel contract with 12 months early notice. Volkswagen would be unable to re-engineered rolls royce engine in that mean time. This create a big problem for Volkswagen group. 

There is big dispute between the Volkswagen and BMW for identification of Rolls royce. Finally Volkswagen agreed to sell BMW the Spirit of Ecstasy and grille shape trademarks and BMW agreed to continue supplying engines and components until 2003. Volkswagen built Rollys royce between 1998 to 2003. In 2003 BMW get complete ownership of Rolls royce. 

Between the 1998 to 2003 BMW get time to built new headquarter for rolls royce and production facility. 

Currently Rolls Royce have 5 Popular cars on Sale
