Hyundai Venue
Hyundai has introduced Intangible Manual Transmission (iMT) technology in its sub four meter SUV vanuance. It can change gears like a manual car but does not have to press the clutch.
Increasing Demand Of AMT
India is now adopting automatic cars (two pedals) much faster than before. Especially after the introduction of Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), people started getting two-paddle cars at a lower price then their number started increasing on the roads.
Hyundai iMT
Now in this direction, Hyundai has tried something new. The company has introduced in-house developed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) technology in its sub four meter SUV vanuance. What is special about it and how comfortable it is in running, we tried to find out through a small test drive.
What Is iMT ?
First of all, know what iMT is after all? This can be called the technology between manual and automatic transmission. Just like an automatic car, you will get two paddles, accelerator and brake. There is no clutch paddle in it i.e. there is no hassle of changing the clutch again and again but you will get the gear just like any manual car. That is, you can change gears like a manual car but do not have to press the clutch.
Why iMT Need To launch ?
Now the question arises that why did the company launch it? Why would those who want comfortable driving buy it instead of full automatic? In response, the company has the logic. The first is that there is no shortage of people who want to change the gears in the vehicle themselves because it gives better control over the vehicle.
Those who drive both automatic and manual cars will know this better. There is a comfort in an automatic car, but it does not have control over driving like a manual car. That is, those people who want control like manual car and automatic like comfort together.
Secondly, the price of a car with iMT can be kept lower than that of a full automatic car, the on road price of iMT variant is about 24-25 thousand rupees compared to the manual. Thirdly, the company wants to give more and more options to its customers. That is, you will now find manual, dual clutch automatic and iMT three types of gearboxes in the menu.
Now let's talk about its driving experience.
The first 5 minutes will make you feel like something completely new, it may seem a bit odd, but after just 5 minutes drive you start to enjoy. The gearshift is much faster than the automatic, you can also keep the vehicle in lower gear on your own.
After the unlock on the streets of Delhi, congestion has started and traffic jams have started happening, we also got stuck in the jam and took full advantage of being a 'no clutch' car. Drive in bumper to bumper traffic for about 30 minutes and there is no fatigue or annoyance at all.
In the same way, its advantage was also seen on the highway. One, here you keep changing gears in between which makes your concentration better, and while overtaking, you can take power as per requirement by keeping the car in lower gear.
How New iMT Works ?
Overall, this technique may seem strange to some people at first sight, but it is an advantageous deal if we look at its practicality. The manual and full automatic car drivers can run it may seem a bit strange initially but once the hands are set, it gives you the fun of both worlds.
This is perfect for those who want more control over the vehicle and are also fond of driving with comfort. For those who want a complete comfort driving, it would be better to go to full automatic. The other problem with this is that Hyundai has introduced it only with a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine.
Only after it comes in all variants, its true competition will be seen from manual and automatic, currently the options are extremely limited. The plus point is its price. The ex-showroom price of iMT is just Rs 16,000 more than its SX Manual variant and Rs 23,500 for SX (O). While the dual clutch variant of this vehicle is about 1.14 lakh rupees more expensive than the manual.
